Georgia's research universities often spawn new companies that bring products and technologies to market. For many of these companies, GRA plays a key early role by investing in the university technology needed to advance the company's invention in the earliest stages.
The primary way GRA achieves this is through its VentureLab program. Since 2002, GRA (through VentureLab) has evaluated the commercial potential of more than 300 inventions or discoveries at universities. The most promising of these were awarded VentureLab grants to help fund the technology research necessary to further develop the invention or discovery. This process has led to the formation of more than 80 early-stage companies that employ more than 450 people and have attracted $300 million in private equity investment. More about VentureLab >
GRA also works with established Georgia companies through its Technology Partnerships program, which provides grants to university researchers conducting collaborative research with a Georgia company that will help the company to develop or refine its products and processes. The company matches the grants dollar-for-dollar.
