Epigenetic DNA Sensor has created a low-cost biosensor that can detect gene changes caused by environmental stressors. Because such gene alterations are often linked to cancer, the test could aid in screening patients for cancer, providing a faster, more precise diagnosis.
The company’s technology uses immobilized single-stranded oligonucleotides on a transducer, which creates an ssDNA recognition detector. The detector recognizes its complementary oligonucleotides, and the connection between the complementary DNA strands produces valuable and informative signals.
The National Cancer Institute estimates that as many as 35 percent of cancer-related deaths could be avoided with better screening. The biomarker test from Epigenetic DNA Sensor could help meet that need.
