James D. Foley, Ph.D.

Georgia Institute of Technology
Recruited: 2001

Dr. Foley's research focuses on:

  • Human-computer interaction
  • Human-human interaction mediated by computers/communications, especially collaborative work and collaborative learning
  • Computer graphics
  • Information visualization
  • Management of R&D and technology transfer

Dr. Foley's lab team is working to create a world in which it is as easy (or easier) for people to work and learn together at a distance as it is for them to work and learn together in person. Experts from computing and communications and psychology and sociology and the learning sciences must all work together to fulfill this vision. Dr. Foley experiments with web-based video lectures viewed by students before coming to class, so that class can be more interactive and dynamic.
