Vertera
Industry: Spinal fusion technology
Vetera has created a unique biomaterial for use in the 400,000 spinal fusion procedures performed each year.
The company’s proprietary material, PEEK Scoria, combines the strength and durability of poly-ether-ketone (PEEK) with a porous surface layer derived from igneous rock. This porous surface enhances the integration of the bone and the implant, leading to a more rapid and successful fusion.
PEEK Scoria offers a notable advantage over previous PEEK-only spinal implant devices, which suffer fusion failure rates of 11 to 15 percent.
Note: Vertera was acquired by NuVasive in 2017.
