Artificial Platelets 2
Industry: Synthetic platelets
This project out of Emory University has created synthetic, shelf-stable platelets, mimicking the biological platelets produced by the human body. The technology has been shown, in vivo, to slow bleeding similarly to biological platelets.
Platelets are in high demand, especially for emergency medicine. A synthetic platelet supply can address the need for hospitals, ambulances and even battlefield medics.
The estimated accessible market for the artificial platelet technology is $500-600 million.
