Industry: Electric vehicle battery cooling

As electric vehicles become more popular, manufacturers continue to improve the batteries they run on, increasing the range they can travel without recharging. But higher-powered batteries require new kinds of cooling technologies to maintain internal temperature.

The BTMS project out of Georgia Tech offers one such technology. It uses electrically inert liquid coolants and a micro-fabricated wick structure to create what is known as “capillary flow” around the battery.

The system and flow of coolant have been shown to manage temperature effectively.
