Collaborative Environment for Robot Operation and Management
Industry: Poultry farming
This technology platform developed at Georgia Tech uses augmented and virtual reality (VR) technology to control a robotic arm in poultry processing. Workers wear a VR headset, like an Oculus Rift, through which they see and control an actual robotic arm that performs repeated, menial tasks on the poultry assembly line.
The technology – which caters to a broad population of workers – uses highly sensitive cameras and sensors to marry robotics with virtual reality. Its use in poultry processing not only addresses a critical labor shortage — it also improves worker safety, as the user can be in a remote location.
The VR-driven robotic automation technology has another module that supports the training of new workers.
